Parents and Members Committee

The Parents and Members Committee (PMC) is a committee of the Board of Directors of Parents For Community Living (PCL) formerly known as The Parent Group of Parents For Community Living.  The Parents and Members Committee has been meeting since the beginning (1986) and continues to meet on the second Monday of the month, October to June, 7 pm, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Blueridge Ave., in Kitchener.

The committee is made up of parents, advocates, and siblings of developmentally challenged individuals who have a family member either living in one of the PCL Family Homes, receiving Respite at the Adult or Children Respite homes or are on the Developmental Services Access Centre (DSAC) wait list.

Many members have been involved since the beginning, and find this committee to be a valuable avenue for families to receive important information from the Ministry of Community & Social Services (MCSS), Developmental Services Access Centre (DSAC) and other Government Agencies that help members deal with the challenge of taking care of their family member. New members are sincerely welcome.

Membership is open to all who are interested in the organization e.g. friends relatives etc.   Members are very involved as Board Members, Committee members e.g., Fundraising, Strategic Planning, Human Resources, and on other Ad-Hoc committees as needed.

Parents and Members Committee Mandate

The mandate of the Parents and Members committee is to act as advocates for family members and residents of PCL homes; to serve as a resource group for PCL management, support providers and Board of Directors as well as for other parents and members and to act as guardians of the PCL philosophy, vision and mission. While it is recognized that some concerns or conflicts may arise while the committee attempts to fulfill its role of advocate, the committee will always act in the best interests of the parents and members, the residents of our homes and PCL in general. Any conflict arising will be dealt with in accordance with PCL's established grievance procedure.

A member of the Board of Directors representing the Parents and Members Group will chair the Parents and Members committee. The Chair will present a Board report to the membership at its regular meetings and will present a Parents and Members Committee report to the board at its regular meetings.

The Parents and Members Group may appoint "ad hoc" sub-committees from time to time, as required, for the duration of specific projects.
